Next delivery from La Montaña Rusa, radio jazz online. We open the program with our Classic Jazz Recording of the Week, Promise Kept: The Complete Artist’s House Recordings, amazing 5CDs box with the complete recordings byArt Pepper for Artist’s House records in 1979.

In our section Jazz in Spanish, we’ve have listened to the new release from the catalan pianist Elisabet Raspall, Links, recently published this 2019 in Trio.

Regarding International Jazz, we’ve listened first to the great Jaco Pastorius in this alive performance with his Word of Mouth Big Band, at the Avery Fisher Hall, in 1982, performance recovered by Resonance Records and published completed in 2017 under the title Truth, Liberty & Soul Live in New York: The Complete NPR Jazz Alive! Recording.

Also we’ve listened to the last release until date from the Jazz Rock, Fusion and Progressive Rock, the British band Flying Machines, from whom we’ve enjoyed their second album, released in 2018, New Life.

And we close the program with the new release of the NY saxophonist Mike Casey, Surprise! The Remixes pt 1, recently published this 2019.

En nuestra sección de Jazz en Español, escuchamos el volumen 5 de Underpool records, Underpool 5, una serie de grabaciones en las que el sello barcelonés convoca en el estudio a un puñado de músicos para completar estas sesiones de grabación, que ya van por la quinta entrega, publicada este pasado 2017. En este volumen escuchamos un cuarteto formado por Gorka Benítez, Roger Mas, Martín Leiton y Ramón Prats.

En las novedades Jazz, escuchamos la vuelta al estudio, después de un grave accidente, del guitarrista de fusión Mike Stern, que en este Trip del 2017, reúne a algunos de los nombres más granados de la fusión contemporánea.

Volvemos con este super macro mega Especial dedicado a la trayectoria maravillosa del gran John Abercrombie que nos dejó hace unas semanas. Para los que hacemos La Montaña Rusa, Abercrombie es y será siempre EL JAZZ con mayúsculas. Su música representa lo que más nos gusta de ese extensísimo universo llamado Jazz.

Lo vamos a echar mucho de menos pero siempre nos quedará su grandísima obra, fascinante, intensa como pocas, brillante y maravillosa. Gracias Mr. Abercrombie por hacernos destinatarios de su enorme trabajo. Lo disfrutaremos durante mucho tiempo.

Aquí otra entrega más de radio jazz en La Montaña Rusa. Abrimos con nuestro clásico que esta semana es esta maravilla que se llama Cirrus y que fue publicada en el año 1974 por el gran Bobby Hutcherson. Seguimos con nuestro jazz más cercano, presentando el último trabajo de los R.S. Faktor, proyecto del trompetista vasco Rubén Salvador. Se llama Akúfeno y está publicado este 2016.

Nuestra primera novedad del mercado internacional jazzístico es el descubrimiento de este excelente trío de jazz japonés que se llama Shoko Igarashi Organ Trio, liderado por la saxofonista Shoko Igarashi. Escuchamos su último trabajo, Alarm Call, publicado este 2016.

Nos acercamos también al mundo de la fusión. saliéndonos un poco hacia otros estilos musicales, recordando algo del trabajo del vocalista y teclista de Steely Dan, Donald Fagen. Escuchamos su segundo trabajo, Kamakiriad, publicado en el 93.

La siguiente novedad de este 2016 que escuchamos de jazz internacional en esta Montaña Rusa es el último trabajo del gran Steve Kuhn, maravilloso, en formato de trío junto a Steve Swallow y Joey Baron, pura delicia. Se llama At this time…

Más fusión de la mano de dos grandes, Mike Stern y Randy Brecker, juntos en directo en Japón en el año 2014. Y cerramos con nuestro clásico de la semana, ese Cirrus del gran Bobby Hutcherson, del año 1974.
