Abrimos este número 495 de La Montaña Rusa del Jazz con el recuerdo al gran Randy Weston que nos dejó esta semana pasada. Uno de los grandes pianistas del Jazz con una extensa e influyente trayectoria en la que la sombra musical de sus raíces africanas ha estado siempre muy patente. Escuchamos de manera íntegra, intercalado entre los otros invitados de esta Montaña Rusa, Uhuru Afrika, uno de sus estupendos trabajos, publicado éste en 1960 para Roulette Records, a modo de homenaje a su legado musical.

En nuestra sección de Jazz en Español, escuchamos uno de los últimos trabajos del contrabajista gallego Baldo Martínez, en este caso acompañado de su ¡ZAS Trío!, junto a Marcelo Peralta y Carlos Sir Charles González. Round About Armstrong es el título del nuevo álbum y como su nombre indica es una estupenda relectura de los trabajos de uno de los grandes de la Historia del Jazz.

La primera Novedad de esta semana es uno de los últimos trabajos del gran Vijay Iyer, Far From Over, publicado fuera de su habitual entorno en trío, para ECM en el año 2017.

También volvimos a recordar esa maravilla de recopilatorio que se llama J-Jazz: Deep Modern Jazz from Japan 1969-1984 y que ya escuchamos en nuestro programa hermano Libertad Jazzera y en el que se da buena muestra de la estupenda escena jazzística japonesa de los años 70.

Volvimos también al excelente panorama jazzístico italiano de la mano del guitarrista Francesco Fiorenzani y su Silent Water, estupendo trabajo publicado este 2018.

Y cerramos con uno de los discos que más nos han gustado en lo que llevamos de año, dentro del ámbito del Jazz Rock y la Fusión, el nuevo trabajo del batería Dan Weiss, el potente y brillante Starebaby, publicado este 2018.
